The Crafts Council Development Award is for makers who are about to set up their business, or who are within three years of doing so.

Crafts Council Development Award Recipients 2007

The Crafts Council Development Award, formally the Setting Up Scheme, is the longest running scheme of its type and has awarded over 1500 grants since it’s inception in 1973, selected by an independent panel of makers representing different disciplines.

The award is for makers who are about to set up their business, or who are within three years of doing so, and consists of:

• An equipment grant of up to £5000, which must be matched by the recipient
• A maintenance grant of £2,500
• A residential forum in aimed specifically at the training needs of small creative practices
• The provision of 1,000 promotional postcards
• One to one support from a Crafts Council Maker Development Officer, which includes two studio visits
• Representation on Photostore, the Crafts Council’s visual database

To be eligible to apply for the Crafts Council Development Award applicants must have completed their studies, be about to or have practised as craftsperson for no more than three years and live and work in England and be resident for tax purposes.

(The Award is open to non-UK nationals as long as they fulfill this condition.) There is no minimum or maximum age limit, or formal training requirements.
