Rising Stars offers an exciting opportunity for collectors who wish to support and acquire work by future stars.
The programme will consist of the Rising Stars exhibition, a catalogue, and early career maker business skills events relevant to the marketplace.
Following a popular open call with 165 applications, we are delighted to announce that the makers selected for the Rising Stars 2024 are: Barbara Sulzberger (Ceramics), Caitlin Murphy (Jewellery), Carolina De Jesus (Textiles), Charlotte Smith (Jewellery), Choi Chi Wing (Ceramics), Hanyi Feng (Metal), Jess Skelton (Ceramics), Laura Gibbs (Ceramics), Libby Daniels (Ceramics), Ling Yin Shum (Jewellery), Lucy Pearl Petts (Jewellery), Masuma Rahim (Wood), Molly Rigby (Jewellery), Monica Findlay (Metal), Olivia Barber (Ceramics), Philip Gay (Wood), Rachael Plassard (Jewellery), Richard Parr (Wood), Samuel Cheeseman (Wood), Sandra Junele (Textiles), Sarah Louise McQuarrie (Jewellery), Sarah White (Textiles), Simone Brown (Ceramics), Sophie Wootton (Ceramics), Suluk Khalvati (Jewellery), Taylor Shaw (Ceramics) and Youyou Wang (Ceramics).
We recognise there is a lack of representation from Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ makers and makers who identify as having a disability in the southeast region. 52% of Rising Stars makers are from one of the underrepresented groups.
On 15 March, one of the makers will receive a professional development award of £1,000 and a solo exhibition in 2025. Rising Stars 2024 is organised by New Ashgate in partnership with the University for the Creative Arts and Making Goode.
It is supported by Radcliffe Trust and Billmeir Charitable Trust.
