Darren Appiagyei is a wood artist whose work showcases the beauty of the material. The collection What Grows in the Dark Comes to Light honours his late mother who died from fibroids. Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in the walls of the womb. This series is Appiagyei's first venture into sharing his personal life through his art. Using a lathe, dremel and pyrography machine, Appiagyei hand crafts each vessel to explore texture, clusters, growth and tone. His display at Collect is a sensory experience, as you are invited to step into the darkness and see what comes to light.
