Friday 18 October saw the launch of the Autumn/Winter 2024 issue of Crafts at the Whitworth in Manchester where our cover star, Turner Prize nominee Delaine Le Bas, was in conversation with art historian, writer and academic Sarah James.
Guests got the chance to hear about Le Bas' life and work, which addresses complex themes such as nationhood, belonging and gender across diverse media including embroidery, painting, decoupage, sculpture, installations and performance.
Host of this conversation was Sarah James, professor of visual culture at Manchester School of Art. James who has published two monographs (Paper Revolutions, MIT Press, 2022, and Common Ground, Yale University Press, 2013), and written a significant number of essays and articles on contemporary art and photography. As senior curator at Tate Liverpool, she was responsible for curating the 2022 Turner Prize and leading the wider curatorial team in devising and realising the programme of collection displays and touring exhibition.
