Meditation in stitches, Hugh Gilbert125cms square, habotai silk, 10 mommes. Hand finished edges. £130
Another meditative design, where I started from the centre and allowed the shapes and colours to dictate the movement and direction.when folded, this scarf simply plays, taking the eye on journeys around the scarf, the shape and your unique styling.enlarging the finished tapestry allows you to really appreciate the stitchers and the wonderful lustre made with cotton perlé. The ultimate entertainment is when you feel and touch and wear the silk, which looks like it should be a heavy tapestry!
The Trompe l’oeil Collection- Shetland design, Hugh Gilbert125cms square, hand finished edges, habotai silk, medium weight 10 mommes. £130
Nothing is quite what it seems. This should be a heavy, flat piece of stitched canvas work, but it drapes and fold like silk! That’s because the original tapestry work has been reproduced and digitally printed as a limited edition onto soft luxurious habotai silk. The colours are inspired by traditional Shetland knitwear, transaleted to cotton perlé thread.
Paradise Garden - alternative colours, Hugh Gilbert125cms square, habotai silk. Hand finished hems.£130
Subtle shadings of greys and browns, make an interesting and versatile scarf, full of the most muted and subtly various hints of colours. Taken from an original stitched tapestry work, and enlarged so every stitch can be seen and even the glorious mistakes! The silk is habotai, medium weight 10 mommy, 125cms square. It has a luxurious drape and super soft.
Blue Flags, Hugh GilbertDigitally printed as a limited edition, 125cms square, habotai silk £130
Started off because I suddenly had time on my hands - literally! I found my canvases, my old thread (cotton perlé) and stretcher frames, and stitched my thoughts and mental meanderings with shapes and colour.
This design was a form of meditation, growing out from the centre and reminiscent of prayer flags. The finished image is enlarged and digitally printed to these habotai silk scarves, 125cms square.
