Ruthin Craft Centre first opened in 1982 but began its rapid and internationally recognised rise to become one of Britain’s most outstanding centres for the applied arts from 1992, when director Philip Hughes and deputy director Jane Gerrard took the reins. Since then, it has become one of the largest publicly funded applied arts venues in the UK. It runs an exciting programme of exhibitions of contemporary craft from Wales, the UK and beyond. At Collect, its focus is on representing exceptional work made in Wales: a selection of the best ceramics, textiles, metal and glass. Ruthin is funded by the Arts Council of Wales, as part of its Arts Portfolio Wales and direct sales of craft work.
