Afterall, the primal elements of shape, colour, texture and surface are everywhere, and you never know when, or where, an idea will germinate. It is wonderful to start adding patterns to shapes while the inspiration is at its strongest. In this collection there are pots inspired by the Nabataean Tombs in AlUla, the cityscape of Florence, the architecture of Venice and the colours of Sicily.Caroline Cole CeramicsLondon, EnglandInspired by Florence, Photo: ccceramicsThe spectacular view from the Hotel Torre di Bellosguardo in Florence was the inspiration for this Scarab pot which stands about 170mm tall.Inspired by AlUla, Photo: ccceramicsThese two pots, a Small Bowl and a Cinch Vase were inspired by a visit to the extraordinary sandstone Nabataean tombs in AlUla. The deep shadows at the entrances to the tombs are reflected in the patterns and echo the lilting curves of the Arabic script. The vase is about 175mm tall, while the bowl is 135mm in diameter.Inspired by Venice, Photo: ccceramicsVisiting the Venice Art Biennale is always inspiring. Last time, it was the geometries of the Venetian windows and the reddy pinks, deep greens and ochres that found their way onto one of my angular Bottles. The pot is about 220mm tall.Inspired by Sicily, Photo: ccceramicsThis Totem Pole was commissioned by a wonderful lady who wanted a little reminder of her Sicilian walking holidays to have at home with her in Tonbridge. The pot stands about 365mm tall.Inspired by PlacesAboutLike a painter journeying with blank canvases, I always take undecorated pots with me when I travel.
