My primary medium is tapestry weaving, supplemented by other textiles and paperworks. I aim to use the possibilities of colour and texture to the maximum, by juxtaposing shiny and matte materials, for example, or watery to solid colour.
One of my main themes is journeys - those of my diverse ancestors, of today's refugees and now of migratory birds. I celebrate their courage and resilience.
15th International Triennial of Tapestry, Lodz, Poland 09 May 2016
This is the premiere tapestry exhibition in the world, held every three years, and participation is only by invitation. I am honoured to be sending a tapestry. The show is on 9 May to 30 October 2016.
How to make a tapestry about Islamophobia 22 May 2019
I wanted to respond to Islamophobia, one of the great evils of our age. Along with everyone I know, I was horrified by the Christchurch mosque shootings on 15 March. This is my response, using an existing prayer rug I had owned for over 40 years.
