A few years ago I was commissioned to make a large black wooden centrepiece and decided to use fire to blacken it, rather than stain or dye. I fell in love with this burning process and the textural possibilities. Focus:Carving and charring green wood. All my wood is locally sourced from storm-fallen and already felled trees, giving a second life to timber that would otherwise be chopped up for firewood.
