The theme responds to Chinese symbolic flora; the peony is a popular motif found on traditional Chinese porcelain. The material is unglazed porcelain fired in the Embla, a large wood fired kiln for 6 days and nights. The colours and textures that resulted were truly astonishing, caused by the flames and wood ash over the duration of the firing.Kay AplinBrighton, EnglandCeramic Wallpaper – Peonies, Ole AkhøjUnglazed wood fired wall mounted porcelain tiles, 1.4 x 1.8mCeramic Wallpaper – Peonies, Ole AkhøjUnglazed wood fired wall mounted porcelain tilesCeramic Wallpaper – PeoniesAboutPeonies is the first piece of work of an ongoing project called Ceramic Wallpaper, created in 2019 on a woodfiring symposium in Guldagergaard, Denmark.
