More than a decade on these distinctive and meticulously crafted wall-hangings, formed from ethically sourced timber have become a signature of the studio. What began as a poetic notion of ‘reflecting the sky into wood’ has, for Lee, become a vocation. The artworks are being created in response to VaRa Garden Design’s fresh spring planting scheme, and will be sited in the wooded Ranelagh Gardens area of the Royal Hospital Gardens, Chelsea, London. The Cedar Collection 2022 is Lee’s latest outdoor commission and will feature five hand sculpted artworks. Crafted from sustainably-felled Cedar of Lebanon, that was gifted from a private garden in Kent, Lee is using her signature approach of merging tree and mirror to reveal the dramatic facades of this once proud Cedar. Lee’s sculptures, with precision cut steel mirrors sunk into the wood, will be at once both sympathetic to the landscape and strikingly distinctive amongst VaRa Garden Design’s richly textured planting. The trail of five Cedar sculptures will be available to discover amongst the wooded Ranelagh Gardens area, curated by VaRa, at the Royal Hospital Gardens from the 24th – 28th of May.
