Crafts CouncilDirectoryMarvel Opara CeramicsCeramic tableware & sculptureLondonCeramicsWebsiteAboutInfoMy name is Marvel and I’m a ceramicist making decorative tableware and figurative sculptures. I have been registered blind since I was a child, and pottery has been a part of my life for many years. As I can't see the pieces I make, I navigate my way through touch. I like to think of it as telling a story through my hands. Clay allows me to tap into the world within, or how I see things. My head pots allow me to create what I perceive of the faces I come across. They can be used as a sculptural piece or as a functional object, such as a plant holder. My pieces also reflect my Nigerian origin with their hairstyles and prints, especially on my plates and bowls. I like to think these can be artistic pieces, used as wall hangings or decor for a home or restaurant. Excitingly, I have been selected as one of the makers in the upcoming series of the BBC One programme 'Make It at Market', a business series hosted by Dom Chinea. I am being mentored by renowned potter Stuart Carey to help turn my pottery hobby into a full time living. If you'd be interested in my work as part of any upcoming exhibitions or events, please do let me know and we can have a chat.Focus:Creating functional tableware & artistic sculpturesCommissions:Available for commissionsAboutMy name is Marvel and I’m a ceramicist making decorative tableware and figurative sculptures.
