Hope Emerging
Hope Emerging is about the despair I feel at different cultures and religions suffering in conflict. It drives me to convey important messages of empathy, unity and hope emerging from the pain.
The coloured yarns provide a metaphor to show the transformation from the blood spilt and pain of suffering through graduated tones to ivory conveying hope. I use knotting expressing tension, wrapped bundles conveying unity, cages suggesting protection and bud shapes expressing hope.
Blood coloured yarn wrapped knots of pain unravel and drape into emerging ceramic ivory buds of hope
Made as a response to the writing of Lynn Hamilton this piece was specially created for the BEYOND TRAUMA exhibition at South Hill Park, Bracknell. Lynn writes about PTSD, communicating the impact of trauma on masculinity and the human mind, using stereotypes like the broken hero. Inspired by her story THAT WAS YESTERDAY, this piece symbolizes the cycle of repetitive traumatic emotions felt by PTSD sufferers.
