With East African and Indian heritage, I am particularly drawn to working with rare and exotic woods. All of the timber I use is sustainably sourced, and, where possible, reclaimed. Inspired by the woodturning traditions which developed in northern Africa 3,000 years ago, to my knowledge, I am the only Muslim woman woodturner working in Britain today. I work from my studio in south-east London and am available for commissions, as well as tuition.Focus:Functional and artistic turningCV:Download documentCommissions:Available for commissionsI source my wood in line with FSC, PEFC & CITES. Where possible, wood is reclaimed or sourced locally. Whilst I sometimes use mixed media, and may incorporate leather or metal into my work, I do not use plastic-based materials such as resin. All of my product packaging is both recycled and recyclable. Where possible, I use wood shavings as packing material when shipping my products.
