Timeline
June 2020
An open meeting was held with over 100 people from the creative industries to discuss how we can address racism and inequality in the craft sector. It became clear from conversations that a step change was needed. Crafts Council’s CEO at the time Rosy Greenlees OBE continued to hold open meetings throughout the summer, facilitated by Amanda Parker.
Over time the need for a smaller working group was identified and the Global Majority Advisory Group (GMAG) was created. Founding members acted as critical friends to the Crafts Council, giving a voice to marginalised makers.
The GMAG worked directly with Crafts Council’s leadership team to devise a new relationship manager role.
