The Crafts Council Directory features the best of UK craft. We welcome a wide range of craft, makers and craft businesses, and are committed to promoting the work of our directory and its makers.
The directory is simple and easy to set up. Once your monthly payment has been successfully set up, please follow the instructions/steps in the left-hand menu bar. Portfolio projects (see below for a definition) are submitted for approval prior to your profile going live.
You can update and amend your profile throughout your membership. To access your directory profile just log in via the icon at the top right of the Crafts Council website. We encourage you to keep your profile up to date as it helps us promote you.
Below are some useful tips to make the most of your profile both on setting up and when active.
Top tips for creating your directory profile
Your portfolio holds 10 ‘projects’ each containing up to 5 images. Don’t worry you don’t need to complete them all - projects and images can be added in later!
It is worth considering your image selection and projects titles in advance of setting up your profile.
Do take advantage of your 10 portfolio projects and remember the first image you upload will be the image displayed in your main profile page.
For an online platform, good quality images of your work are essential. Find some tips on how to photograph your work here.
For your lead image use a photograph that you feel best reflects your work – this is the first image visitors will see when searching on the directory.
Profile pictures are square (think Instagram!) and so to make best use of this space we recommend you consider either editing or changing this image if needed.
If you wish you can publish your email address on your profile, but if you do not want this information to be public please leave the field blank.
When portfolio projects are first submitted, they enter the draft mode for approval by Crafts Council staff.
Always provide image credit – we often use images from the directory to promote makers and it is essential to give full credit to both makers and photographers!
We are happy to help, if you need support or advice just contact our Relationships Manager either by email directory@craftscouncil.org.uk or call directly on 07743 933 651.
Top tips for making the most of your directory profile
Keep your newsfeed up to date with anything you feel would be of interest to your profile visitors - exhibitions, shows, digital events, new product ranges, collaborations or press features. Some of your news may even be selected for promotion through the Crafts Council’s social channels.
All images can be changed including those in the portfolio, lead and profiles images, so we recommend that if you have new photographs that you keep profile fresh and updated with your most recent work.
Keep the Crafts Council team updated with your activities – exhibitions or fairs that you’re part of, awards or prizes you’ve won – email us on directory@craftscouncil.org.uk.
Profile approval
All profiles are moderated by Crafts Council staff within the application process to ensure that the directory represents the best of UK craft.
Our aim is to support makers by providing advice on profile applications that may not have been approved initially. However, in some cases we may feel that the directory is not best placed to promote and support the content of the profile in question, in which case payment will of course be refunded.
We try to be as quick as possible with the approval process, but please allow up to 7 working days to confirm approval of application.
Approval requirements:
- all work must be hand crafted by the profile maker or group of makers represented
- the work submitted will demonstrate either a unified artistic mission or purpose
- a clear understanding and skill of your discipline must be demonstrated
- photography needs to be clear and accurately represent your work
Please find the directory terms and conditions here.
