Contract and Hours
Permanent part-time, 0.6 FTE, 21.75 hours per week, 3 days per week, generally worked from Tuesday to Thursday (9.15-5.30pm, including lunch break). Minimum two days per week are to be worked at Crafts Council office.
Crafts Council aims to support flexible working and part time arrangements where it is appropriate for the role.
Salary
£30,000 gross per annum based on part-time working. £50,000 gross per annum based on full-time working.
Location
Crafts Council Office and Gallery is based in Islington, London, with some hybrid / home working.
Role to Commence
As soon as possible from October 2024 onwards.

About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Finance and People, the Finance Manager plays a key role in ensuring the effective delivery of Crafts Council’s finance function. Alongside management and oversight of the finance team, a crucial element of this role is providing financial advice, guidance and support for the wider project teams. This will involve building strong working relationships with project leads (Collections, Crafts, Collect, Learning and Participation and Development) and fellow functions leads (Operations, People, and Communications); ensuring understanding of their budgets and budget management systems.
Equally important is ensuring compliance in relation to the financial policies and procedures of the organisation.
Role Objectives
The postholder will:
- Ensure all financial reporting is produced in a timely manner
- Ensure managers, including Project and Functions Leads have visibility of performance against budgets, providing regular reviews and support
- Develop and maintain procedures for use within the finance team, and the wider organisation
- Manage the finance team, supporting and guiding as required
- Play a management role within the wider functions group, and functions meetings.
Main Duties
The postholder will:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the finance function, providing leadership and management and ensuring the team are supported and motivated to perform to the best of their abilities. Work with external support as required.
- Work closely with budget holders, including project and function leads, to monitor budget performance. Ensure knowledge, understanding and active engagement with Power BI (our budget reporting tool).
- Maintain approval workflows in line with the approval matrix
- Prepare and maintain a monthly routine task list, allocating all tasks and monitoring when complete
- Ensure processing is up to date and outstanding queries are reviewed on a weekly basis as a minimum
- Arrange and/or deliver training for all staff on systems and procedures, conducting refreshers as needed
- Prepare monthly management accounts, and quarterly forecast updates, and manage the cash flow forecast
- Assist the Director of Finance & People in the preparation of Statutory Accounts
- Complete VAT returns and other statutory returns as required
- Work with our Development team to provide information in support of any bids for funding and reporting as required on completed projects
- Contribute to wider functions focused planning delivery and review activity
