This role will be paid London Living Wage which is currently £13.85 per hour gross per annum (before deductions including Tax, National Insurance)

About this opportunity

Crafts Council is excited to announce a paid employment, six-month placement exclusively aimed at young people registered as Young Craft Citizens (currently registered or registering during this application process) who live in the London borough of Hackney.

The placements will be delivered through a new partnership with Shoreditch Works—a sustainability-led and community -inspired mixed-use development project within the borough.

During the placement you will lead a programme of community consultation as part of Meanwhile…in Shoreditch, a programme of events and activities taking place before the development commences.

Job Outline

Through a new partnership with Shoreditch Works, we’re pleased to announce the first of a series of placements in which young people (aged 18-30) will take a leading role in engaging young people from Hackney in an important placemaking programme through the lens of craft and regeneration.

The role will involve:

Mapping local communities, partners and stakeholders
Developing new partnerships; meeting people and making connections
Planning and delivering 3 x creative events with Hackney residents in partnership with Shoreditch Works strategic partners
Capturing insight and feedback from residents
Creating several short reports sharing this work

Placement holders will

Take part in a thorough induction process with Shoreditch Works, introducing you to the Shoreditch Works development programme and key partners
Receive training and mentoring from Crafts Council team covering key skills for the placement: research and consultation approaches, presentation & communication, event management, safeguarding, project management and evaluation
Have an opportunity to meet Crafts Council’s relevant teams, working closely with colleagues from across the organisation
Receive mentorship and advice on professional development and opportunity to connect with relevant professionals
