One of four pieces by Jenny Crisp acquired by Crafts Council, Large Wall Basket is a good place to start exploring the basket maker’s 40-year practice working with willow. A grant from Crafts Council in 1985 supported Jenny to take up an apprenticeship with basket maker and willow grower, David Drew (who himself had received a bursary from Crafts Council in establishing his own practice), which as she says, “transformed her awareness of this ancient and cultural craft”, set her on a path towards basketry and willow growing as a career and a way of life.
Dafydd: “I like the unstripped rods of wood, giving a very organic and ancient look to this basket. I enjoy objects that show the natural materials they are made from. The shape is functional, but elegant and I find the tied wooden rods around the opening very aesthetically pleasing.”
