One of two talks hosted by Crafts at Collect 2024, brought together artists Chris Bramble and Freya Bramble-Carter to discuss their careers in ceramics and love of traditional European and African craftsmanship. Father and daughter are both represented by 50 Golborne, and teach and exhibit at Kingsgate Studios in West Hampstead, London where they encourage the practice of ceramics to people of all ages.
Chris Bramble became an established sculptor and ceramicist in the late 1980s, having studied at The Glasgow School of Art and Westminster University, and spent time honing his craft skills in Zimbabwe. He's known for works that combine hand-built and thrown elements.
Freya Bramble-Carter is an emerging ceramicist who has a painterly and nature-inspired practice that comes from studying fine art at Chelsea College of Art. She found clay was her calling too, and has a practice that involves experimenting with glaze textures and colours.
