To Boldly Sew will display a collection of the artist's significant works, showcasing the breadth of her practice and technical mastery. Kettle’s practice is rooted in craft, with her pieces maintaining a conceptual focus on figuration, materiality, and narrative. She works across textiles and fibres, often dedicating many months to a single stitched piece.
In recognition of her contribution to contemporary craft, three of the artist’s handcrafted pieces have been acquired by Brookfield Properties and gifted to the Crafts Council Collection. The exhibition and acquisition of Kettle’s work are both parts of the Brookfield Properties Craft Award – a leading craft prize for UK-based artists, presented to the artist at Collect 2023. Following the exhibition, Three Girls (2022), Little Bird (2022) and The Swimmers (2023) will join over 1,700 objects acquired from the 1970s onwards including a mixed media piece from 1988 by Kettle, entitled Stretching Figure.
