Current work explores the historic technique of agateware, prominent in the UK in 17th & 18th century industrial ceramics. Work includes a range of tableware and a series of large lidded vessels adorned with hand-modelled birds, predominantly British species including blackbirds, crows, sparrows & owls. This new work brings together my experiences of designing and producing industrial ceramics, with many years specialising in portraits & sculptures of endangered species for bronze casting.
My body of work embodies the theme of slow making. Each piece of work is individually hand crafted on the wheel. The turned clay is reused as the main body in hues of grey and stone pink adding to the sustainability of the materials used.
