Each original handwoven piece is derived from observational drawing and textural mark-making. It has its own story in a landscape. The artwork is translated into digital files and is carefully hand-woven on a jacquard loom in a mixture of sustainably sourced yarns, chosen for their colour and inherent fibre properties. Fiona is happy to discuss commission ideas and visit new locations.Fiona J SperrynCornwall, EnglandLangdale, pink (detail), Fiona J SperrynInspired by walking in the woodland of the Langdale Valley in the English Lake District. Original drawings form the starting point of this tapestry-style piece of contemporary art. It is carefully hand-woven by the artist, who ‘paints’ with the threads in this piece, blending colour by using floating threads. Fibres include wool, cotton and silk. It is framed in a matt black frame and measures 86 x 42 x 3cm.Rough Tor, red, Fiona J SperrynThis dramatic piece was inspired by the weathered rocks on the summit of Rough Tor. Original drawings were made in situ on a fresh winter’s day and combined with the textures of the granite itself. The piece is hand-woven on a digital jacquard loom in fine yarns with lustre and a hint of sparkle; linen, silk, rayon floss, lurex and cotton. This unique artwork measures approximately 69 x 58cm.Dartmoor, blue, Fiona J SperrynInspiration came from walking amongst the trees on Dartmoor in Devon. Original drawings are layered and translated into hand-woven cloth. Coloured threads are blended while weaving as if ‘painting on the loom’ and float luxuriously on the surface of the piece. This contemporary hanging measures 106 x 102cm.Handwoven wall art ~ landscapesAboutThis collection of wall art is inspired by the environment.
