Menswear designer Nicholas Daley and Christine Checinska, senior curator of African and African diaspora fashion at the Victoria & Albert Museum, join Central Saint Martins lecturer Dal Chodha to discuss the dominance of cotton in the fashion industry. Together the trio examine how cloth can be a carrier of political and cultural values, and the ways in which materials and production processes will change in the future. You can watch all four talks here.
This panel discussion was the last of four talks that took place during the Stories of Cotton symposium: a half-day event on 2 December 2022, supported by the Bagri Foundation. The symposium delved into the themes underpinning the exhibition Cotton: labour, land and body at the Crafts Council Gallery.
